I think we just wanted the vocals to sound haunting, & Pixies-esq. This song, when we started writing it, was really more of an idea, and an atmosphere, and a mood, than an actual song. Maybe it still is, maybe all songs still are?

We developed the song without any of us saying our intentions for it. Maybe that worked, and we didn't need to say anything. Because we just brought out a bit of ourselves in the song. Hence how it was created. The name & lyrics are less of an interesting story. Jake just thought of how Tame Impala called one of their songs "Led Zeppelin", and he thought "Let's just call it 'Impala' then." Plus, an Impala is a cool big old car and a gazelle type thing, and that's neat. And I just never wrote lyrics, which makes us seem unprofessional, but it's more of a challenge for me. You'll even notice the lyrics on this single version are different from the ones on the tape.

I wanted the drums & bass to be complex & groovy, and the guitar to be psychedelic & noisy. And I wanted the vocals to just roll along with it all. We wanted it to build and bring out emotion. We wanted it to have parts that moved and split. We wanted it to be chaotic, melodic, & weird.
